Thousands protest Israeli aggression in Gaza on Moroccan streets

Thousands of people took to the streets in Morocco to protest the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian news agency Al Jazeera reported. The demonstrations took place in various cities including the Moroccan capital Rabat on Sunday, in what has become the largest mass movement in the country in months.

The protesters expressed solidarity with the people of Gaza and anger at the United States, which they say is supporting Israel's war.

Protesters in the streets of Rabat trampled Israeli flags, carried banners with pictures of Hamas leaders killed in the attack, and displayed posters featuring former US President Donald Trump alongside images of displaced Palestinians.

The ceasefire in Gaza collapsed last month with a massive Israeli air and ground offensive, killing more than 1,000 Palestinians and displacing millions. Moroccans have strongly condemned the aggression.

The Gaza war, which began on October 7, 2023, has killed more than 50,700 Palestinians and injured at least 115,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Similar protests have been held in other countries in the Middle East and North Africa. In addition to protesting Israeli attacks, these demonstrations have also raised slogans demanding the protection of Palestinian rights.

The protesters also opposed Donald Trump's proposed "Gaza reconstruction plan", which Arab countries and human rights groups have called "ethnic cleansing".

The protesters also condemned the administration's crackdown on pro-Palestinian student protests at US universities.
